JAISALMER : JEWEL OF THAR DESERT

Hello my dear friends, I hope you are doing fine. This time I am in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan to be precise.

Jaisalmer, also called the Golden City is a princely state and a former medieval trading centre. It is a major tourist attraction of India and named after Maharawal Jaisal Singh, a Rajput king who founded this city in 1156 AD.

It is the gateway to Thar Desert (world’s second largest desert) and is close to the border of Pakistan. It is located in the western Indian state of Rajasthan.

The hill fort of Jaisalmer is a living fort; home to around  three thousand people living within the walls of this fort. The narrow lanes here have temples, cafés, shops, guesthouses, stalls and restaurants on both sides. In fact this place resembles a small village.

The people of Jaisalmer are warm hearted and very friendly. They lead a simple, yet contented life. They wear brightly coloured traditional clothes along with silver and brass jewellery.

The adventure and excitement of the desert with a majestic fort atop a hillock overlooking honey combed houses has literally transported me to the olden times – a reminder of a glorious bygone era.

Karya Binayak Temple, Lalitpur, Nepal

Smile.nepal wrote :  Karya Binayak is widely revered as a protector deity of Khokana town and some say Bungamati as well. Like Jal Binayak was supposedly established a protector to holy rain giving Nagas residing in Tau Daha lake.

Binayak is a common alternative name of Ganesh, the elephant headed God. Son of lord Shiva, he is believed to manifest good luck and hence is he worshipped first in almost all religious and auspicious occasions. This particular one, Karya Binayak, directly translates to ‘Work Ganesh’ (Karya = Work, Binayak = Ganesh). Before people begin any work, project and any new endeavour, they often worship Karya Binayak first. As guided by faith, Tuesday and Saturday are regarded as

auspicious days to visit the temple.

Every year in Mangsir Purnima (full moon night in the month of Mangshir in Nepali calendar), a ceremony is held that requires worshipping both Rato Machindranath and Karya Binayak at very same auspicious date and time; the liturgy can be witnessed in Bungamati. Karya Binayak is brought to Rato Machindranath and revolved three times around the temple and then the Binayak is taken to the Priest’s home. This is an indication of the end of the Jatra.

Rajasthan : Tourist Places in Jaipur

When it comes to destinations there’s nothing as enchanting a destination as Jaipur. Tour of Rajasthan is one of the reason why people travel to India from foreign countries. Jaipur is a bustling city and capital of Rajasthan. A visit here and you would notice two worlds here which co-exist side by side; one a reminder of the days of kings and the other reflecting the urbane and modern facet of India.

The reason Jaipur is popularly referred to as “the pink city” could be attributed to the fact that entire city was painted pink to welcome Edward, Prince of Wales by then maharaja Sawai Ram Singh.

Jaipur is named after Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who founded it in 1727. It is one of the first planned cities of India with wide roads and well planned sectors. There are several forts built here which include Nahargarh Fort, the personal residence of Sawai Jai Singh II, City Palace.

There is a shop inside the fort where clothing, blankets, bangles, home decor are available from the queens factory. These items are priced very high. You can get exactly the same items from queens factory in shops in City Palace Jaipur at 3/4th price.  Again, similar hand made clothing can be purchased from a shop 'Rajasthan Handicrafts' near Amer fort at half the rate. Eg a saree in Jaigarh fort shop which would be priced at inr 2200 would be available in inr 1200 near Amer fort.
